# Welcome to Hive SBI

## Overview

Hive Stake Based Income (Hive SBI) is an account-based curation program. You sponsor accounts for regular ongoing curation, and then you receive back curation rewards as upvotes on your own content. This empowers both accounts to earn a sustainable crowdfunded basic income.

Members regularly accrue pending balance, and when their pending upvote balance is high enough, they receive an upvote on their latest post (or next post if their latest post is older than 24 hours), from one or more of our curation accounts.

# How Does it Work?

A pending vote value is tracked for every enrolled account. Every 2.4 hours, we increase your pending upvote value, based on your unit levels, at a per unit rate that we have determined to be sustainable.&#x20;

Each time an enrolled account posts, we check whether the account has accumulated enough pending vote value to support an upvote. It takes a pending balance of $0.063 to deliver our minimum upvote of $0.021, but we start every new member with enough pending vote value to receive their first upvote right away.&#x20;

After your first upvote, the time until your next upvote depends on how long it takes to ‘recharge’ the pending vote value that was already delivered and bring your pending value above $0.063 again.

# What Should You Do?

\
You don’t have to do anything - as long as your account is in good standing, you will receive regular upvotes as often as your pending vote value grows enough.&#x20;

#### There are things you can do that will improve your SBI experience.

* Start by sending a ‘thank you’ to the account that enrolled you. That initial subscription will stack with any future enrollments and increase the regularity or size of the upvotes delivered to you.
* Consider upvoting [@steembasicincome](https://peakd.com/@steembasicincome) or its official accounts ([@sbi2](https://peakd.com/@sbi2), [@sbi3](https://peakd.com/@sbi3), [@sbi4](https://peakd.com/@sbi4), [@sbi5](https://peakd.com/@sbi5), [@sbi6](https://peakd.com/@sbi6), [@sbi7](https://peakd.com/@sbi7), [@sbi8](https://peakd.com/@sbi8), [@sbi9](https://peakd.com/@sbi9), [@sbi10](https://peakd.com/@sbi10), [@sbi-booster](https://peakd.com/@sbi-booster)). We do not reward users directly for upvoting our content, but boosting our HP levels will help us keep reward accrual rates high!
* Follow [@steembasicincome](https://peakd.com/@steembasicincome) and [join our Discord server](https://discord.gg/Z5KVQ5whKR) to stay informed.
* If you have available resources, decide whether your Hive commitment justifies an investment in lifetime upvotes.&#x20;
* If you lack available resources, decide whether crowdfunding your own support base would get you the upvotes you crave. We have many members that receive meaningful daily upvotes just through regularly entering contests.

# Frequently Asked Questions

<details>

<summary>Is this Steem Basic Income??</summary>

Hive SBI was launched as a spin-off from Steem Basic Income at the time that Hive blockchain was forked from Steem. We decided to honor most pre-fork subscriptions on the new blockchain, and even make available an option to fully migrate to the blockchain of choice. New enrollments only apply to the chain on which they are funded.

Steem Basic Income appreciates everyone that supported us in our original vision to bring a voluntary crowdfunded basic income to as many Steemians as possible.&#x20;

<details>

<summary>How do I join (or increase my subscription level)?</summary>

First, you can simply send 1 HIVE (or more - whole numbers only, no fractional units will be allocated) to @steembasicincome and include **someone else's** account name as the transaction memo.

Second, participate in some of the many contests run by fellow SBI members. This is not only a great way to potentially win some sponsored units, it also can help you network and grow your following.

The official currency for enrollment is **HIVE**.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I sent 1 HIVE but I misspelled the name. What can I do?</summary>

If this happens please let us know in our [Discord help channel](https://discord.gg/Z5KVQ5whKR) or in an on-chain comment on Hive and give us a few days to fix it and confirm.

To ensure timely processing of your enrollment, please check your balances before sending and check again after 3 or more hours to confirm that your enrollment was processed.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I just sent a transaction sponsoring someone and I’m not seeing an upvote on my posts, did you miss my transaction?</summary>

If it has been at least three hours, you can check your enrollment [on our website](https://www.hivesbi.com/userinfo/) or by typing `!sbi status` in a comment on Hive. You can also check your Hive SBI levels in your PeakD wallet.

How frequently you receive upvotes depends on your subscription level and posting frequency, so you might not receive an update on every post you make. You can read more about our upvote delivery in [Pending Balances & Upvote Delivery](/fundamentals/pending-balances-and-upvote-delivery)[. ](/fundamentals/pending-balances-and-upvote-delivery)

</details>

<details>

<summary>How do I know how many units I have?</summary>

There are multiple ways to check your subscription level:

* On Chain: Make a post or comment with the keywords `!sbi status` in it.
* In PeakD wallet: <https://peakd.com/@YOUR-HIVE-NAME-HERE/wallet/others>
* On our website at <https://www.hivesbi.com/userinfo/>
* On our public [dashboards](https://dashboard.hivesbi.com/public/dashboard/057097bc-3bd6-414b-b1ed-33efde8549a5?hive_name=\&tab=5-transactions\&text=)

</details>

<details>

<summary>How long does my subscription last?</summary>

Regular subscription units last forever. These are the most common units, gained by sending HIVE or by being sponsored.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can my subscription be terminated?</summary>

Yes, your Hive SBI subscription can be terminated at sole discretion of Hive SBI for one or more of the following reasons:

* Plagiarism. Posting content from other sources without proper credits and acting as if it's your own.
* Spamming. Creating posts at rapid pace with low effort and low quality content.
* Bad faith. Bad behaviors toward other Hivers. This may include unfair flagging and other inappropriate actions.
* Other reasons. Hive SBI reserves the right to terminate subscription of any user for any reason not mentioned above.

If your account was added to our skiplist, and your subscription effectively terminated, the units will still be available for tokenization.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I sponsor anyone I want?</summary>

Yes! Just not yourself!

</details>

<details>

<summary>I'm very low on HIVE but I want to join, can someone sponsor me?</summary>

Yes, anyone can sponsor you to join HIVE SBI. Here are some ways you can get sponsored to join the program or get more shares:

* Ask a friend. Tell a friend who already is on Hive ecosystem about the program, and ask them to sponsor you. Both you and your friend get one Hive SBI unit for each HIVE sent for sponsorship!
* Winning Hive SBI contests. The are lots of contests that gives away Hive SBI units as rewards.
* Ask for payment in Hive SBI units. You can provide a product or service for someone within the Hive ecosystem and ask for payment in Hive SBI units instead of HIVE or HBD. Both you and they will benefit from the program if you transact this way!
* Buy HIVE. If all above methods are not working for you, you can always buy HIVE for yourself and enroll into the program. You also get to choose to sponsor other people to the program.
* Convert more Steem Basic Income units into Hive SBI if you have not already done so.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I know I am enrolled and I didn’t get an upvote!</summary>

First, ensure that you have an active subscription by checking the number of units that you have using the tools mentioned above.\
From the `!sbi status` result, check if your rshares balance value is less that $0.06. If so, you need to accumulate more pending balance to hit $0.06 before you get the next $0.02 upvote. If you have reached this threshold but still did not get the upvote, contact the Hive SBI team through discord [here](https://discord.com/invite/Z5KVQ5whKR). You can read more about our upvote delivery in [Pending Balances & Upvote Delivery](/fundamentals/pending-balances-and-upvote-delivery)[. ](/fundamentals/pending-balances-and-upvote-delivery)

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why am I voted by a different account than the person I sponsored?</summary>

Hive SBI has many different accounts; @steembasicincome, @sbi2, @sbi3, etc. Your vote will come from the most available account at the time of your post. The vote will always still have the same value that your account was due at that time, no matter which account is used to cast the vote.

</details>

<figure><img src="https://images.hive.blog/768x0/https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/steembasicincome/vq3SGoDt-image.png" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<details>

<summary>How can I get bigger upvotes on my posts?</summary>

The upvote value given by Hive SBI is determined by the amount of rshares in your pending upvote balance. There are multiple ways to get bigger upvotes from Hive SBI on your posts:

* Enroll for more Hive SBI units. The larger your Hive SBI subscription, the faster your pending upvote balance accumulates. More pending vote balance means bigger upvotes!
* Post less frequently. Even when you are not posting, your Hive SBI pending upvote balance is still constantly accumulating. This will result on bigger upvote value on your next post. You can read more about our upvote delivery in [Pending Balances & Upvote Delivery](/fundamentals/pending-balances-and-upvote-delivery)[. ](/fundamentals/pending-balances-and-upvote-delivery)

</details>

<details>

<summary>If I upvote @steembasicincome, do I get anything?</summary>

No. **Phasing out of upvoting bonuses for Steem Basic Income was** [**announced** ](https://peakd.com/steembasicincome/@steembasicincome/member-upvotes-provide-sustainability-27-october-2019)**27 October 2019.** We do not plan to bring upvote bonuses to Hive SBI.

Some members get good feelings when they support Hive SBI with upvotes. Your results may vary.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What are rshares?</summary>

rshares are the unit that Hive uses to calculate rewards. Whenever you upvote, the witness checks your VP% and HP to calculate how many rshares your upvote is worth. Hive SBI uses rshares to track your pending upvote value. Pending upvote value estimates returned by any of our tools are calculated from your rshares balance at the time of inquiry, but the actual value of your pending upvotes is dependent on HIVE prices and reward pool behavior.

# Transaction Memo Guidelines

## Transaction Memo Guidelines

### The Do's

* Including the @ before each name is optional. It works fine with or without.
* It's fine to send a list, with or without commas after each name.
* Please keep a balanced share count per member if you send a list (i.e. 2 HIVE with 2 names, 6 HIVE with 3 names, 9 HIVE with 3 names, etc.).
* If you want to sponsor multiple members with different share counts, please break it into separate transactions.

&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://1888158910-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzXrfZJ5NtaBDF1PXdtaU%2Fuploads%2Ff476nYcynz2klSXsXXuP%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=0afc7685-9fa9-4452-a22c-3f9b33d156b7" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

These examples are perfect! Comma separated @ list, with the number of sponsees matching the amount of HIVE, or separate transactions with 1 HIVE sent for each member are both perfect. Model your transactions after these and you will be fine!

&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://1888158910-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzXrfZJ5NtaBDF1PXdtaU%2Fuploads%2FkN7oAyRK9KNJFXyW86bC%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=08f5c425-0706-4d03-b344-4e51cd7e5521" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This is great, too! We will recognize the 5 HIVE and add five shares to both sponsor and sponsee!

### The Do Not's

Please \*\*\*do not\*\*\* include \*\*any\*\* other wording in your enrollment memos, especially names of other users that are not the persons being sponsored!

Please ***do not*** sponsor yourself. (Self-sponsoring is not recognized at all. You will get the normal 1 for each HIVE that you send, but the unit normally assigned to the person you sponsor will be assigned to somebody else.)

### Helpful Hints

If you are sending a list manually, you should chunk it into shorter lists, such as 5 or 10 names per transaction. If any name in the list is misspelled and does not match an active account, the entire transaction will be flagged for manual review. With a lot of names, this can be tedious (resulting in enrollment delays for you and for the members you sponsored).

If you have a program sending transactions, longer lists are fine. We have had transactions as large as 75 HIVE (with 75 different names) processed without any issues because all of the names were spelled correctly and the transaction followed our syntax perfectly.

Use whole numbers. *Every transaction* received is rounded *down* to a whole number, and you will **not** receive a refund of your excess amount. Even **1.999** would be treated as **1**, and you and your sponsee will each receive only 1 unit added to your subscription level.

### Third-party Sponsoring

We also support special sponsorship transactions. Many members for their contests have asked about setting a separate sponsee as the 'sponsor' for the second share. This is supported via '@sponsor:@sponsee'. For example, a transaction comes from @josephsavage with a transaction memo that reads "@katysavage : @babysavage". This would be interpreted as @katysavage sponsoring @babysavage, even though the transaction came from @josephsavage. We currently have a few members that use this format regularly, and it works flawlessly.

You could also use this to submit enrollment transactions through @blocktrades or other exchanges. If you withdraw to @steembasicincome with your transaction memo in this format, you can still receive credit for sponsoring (or sponsor people anonymously by having neither name be from you!)

{% hint style="warning" %}
The official currency for enrollment is HIVE. If we choose to accept HBD without refunding it, you do *not* receive extra value for it.
{% endhint %}

Enrollments are processed automatically every 144 minutes. You can check your status using `!sbi status` in any post or comment.

# Pending Balances & Upvote Delivery

### Member rshares Balances

When an account is enrolled in Hive SBI, we begin tracking an rshares balance for that member.&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
rshares are the unit that Hive uses to calculate rewards. Whenever you upvote, the witness checks your VP% and SP to calculate how many rshares your upvote is worth.&#x20;

When a post pays out, the witnesses check the rshares balance against the total reward pool to calculate the appropriate HP and HBD payouts.
{% endhint %}

This is the actual value used to track your upvote values on Hive, and the method that Hive SBI uses to track your pending upvote value.

### Value Sources

There are currently three sources of value that contribute to each member's pending upvote value. How each source works is more fully described in our [**FAQ**](/fundamentals/frequently-asked-questions), but the sources are *Standard Units*, *Bonus Units*, and *Enrollment Rewards*.

#### Pending Value

Picture separate water sources that fill a pending vote tank for each member. The flow from each source into the tank is dependent on enrollment level or delegation. Increasing your enrollment or delegation will immediately increase the size of that source, and therefore the rate at which it contributes value to the tank.

***It takes time for the rate change to impact the total pending value in the tank.***

#### Value Delivery

To prevent 'dust' penalties, the minimum upvote we deliver is $0.021 per post, and we will only deliver up to 33% of pending value at a time. Each time a member posts, we check their rshares balance, and open the 'valve' if their pending value is large enough to support a minimum upvote.&#x20;

#### Voting Accounts

When the valve is opened, one of our voting accounts is activated to deliver the upvote. We select the highest VP account that can deliver the entire upvote size. If no account can deliver enough rshares to fulfill the vote, we vote from as many accounts as it takes to deliver the whole value. If we vote from all ten and still can't deliver the value, the valve closes and only the amount we can deliver is removed from the tank.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Our maximum deliverable vote value per post is a function or our current HP and VP levels, along with the HIVE price. If you plan on a significant increase in your Hive SBI levels, check with us to determine whether it will cause accrual rates that are too high for your posting frequency!
{% endhint %}

***

## Recommended Hive SBI Levels

*Note: this section is **not** financial advice, but could help you have a better SBI experience.*

We recommend that you target at least $3 worth of Hive SBI levels to receive a weekly upvote, or $20 worth for a daily upvote. (Divide 20 by HIVE price in USD to estimate HSBI total needed). Lower subscription levels will still receive regular upvotes, but they will be less frequent.

Increasing your Hive SBI subscription increases your upvote frequency. Once your subscription is high enough for your tank refill rate to power an upvote on every post, then increasing your subscription will increase your upvote sizes instead.

Joseph is the founder of Hive SBI. Entrepreneur, investor, trader, polymath; Joseph needs no further introduction.

### Subject Intro: @freecompliments

I just met @freecompliments recently, when he came into our [Discord server](https://discord.gg/Z5KVQ5whKR) with questions about how Hive SBI works and whether he can use it to support his [uplifting complimentary curation project](https://peakd.com/c/hive-140084/created). His optimism and excitement proved to be contagious!

My desire to get to know him better was a prime factor in my decision to begin a Hive SBI interview series, to pick up where our sister program, Steem Basic Income, left off with [its last interview](https://peakd.com/interviews/@steembasicincome/sbi-interview-with-tcpolymath) three years ago.

<figure><img src="https://1888158910-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzXrfZJ5NtaBDF1PXdtaU%2Fuploads%2FtK3f4IRWesYFoF1xwZUo%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=c0ccee56-4826-4ad8-ac62-12fc38d6fa8c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

@josephsavage: How did you get into crypto, and how did you learn about Hive?

@freecompliments: I initially heard about Bitcoin roughly 11 years ago, but didn't pay much mind to it back then, as with many other people. It was only last year that I truly started to pay more attention to it, after seeing the meteoric rise, and relatively predictable patterns, of Bitcoin's value. I then read about the underlying technology for a few months, and even though I'm still far from well-versed, it occurred to me that the potential applications of this technology are so far-ranging that it would be foolish to not give it a reasonable chance. Thus, I started buying into bitcoin, along the way encountering some other alternative cryptocurrencies which, in hindsight, were not great choices.

At one point during a brief work break, I was interested in finding ways to earn Bitcoin, rather than simply buying it. I found out about SteemIt, where it was possible to earn cryptocurrency without having to buy into it and without having to provide any identifying information. I then read about the history of what happened a few years ago, and consequently reached Hive. It became clear that this was going to be my primary choice of blog, and in fact, my very first actual blog.

The idea instantly came to me that, in this decentralized, censorship-free environment, I could potentially start a community which I successfully began on a different platform, but later lost ownership due to a variety of platform restrictions. This time, I could run the show my way while maintaining the freedom of speech that I wanted to keep in the original iteration of the community. Thus, I opened up the @freecompliments account, and the rest is history... in the making!

@josephsavage: I find it interesting that a lot of cool things are started by people that just got here. I had only been on Steemit for about a month when I started to put the pieces together to start Steem Basic Income.

<figure><img src="https://1888158910-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzXrfZJ5NtaBDF1PXdtaU%2Fuploads%2FtK3f4IRWesYFoF1xwZUo%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=c0ccee56-4826-4ad8-ac62-12fc38d6fa8c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

@josephsavage: So you have some background in community-building then?

@freecompliments: Yes, I actually built the FreeCompliments community on Reddit from the ground up; that was the very first iteration. I built until it reached roughly 50,000 members, then dropped away from the site after I was banned for promoting it. The website took over and now it's sitting pretty at 272k members. It's large, but generally devoid of useful content, and certainly not meeting the expectations I originally had. The depth, originality, and spirit have been replaced with superficiality (which has its place, but should not be the sole purveyor of content).

Sad stories aside... Hive gave me a new hope that a better version of this community could be built, and this time I'd be able to run it the way i had originally intended. I'd be able to have a tight grip on the community, and possibly counterintuitively, allow more freedom to users than could ever be possible on a centralized Web 2.0 platform.

Due to its inherent properties, I do see Hive as a platform where ideas can blossom. I understand that Steemit was the original blockchain iteration of Hive, and the underlying idea likely interested thoughtful, creative people like yourself.

@josephsavage: That's really exciting that Hive would give you new hope and inspire you to build again. Now your enthusiasm is giving me new enthusiasm after dealing with some crypto burnout. I hope that we can inspire others, too.

<figure><img src="https://1888158910-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzXrfZJ5NtaBDF1PXdtaU%2Fuploads%2FtK3f4IRWesYFoF1xwZUo%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=c0ccee56-4826-4ad8-ac62-12fc38d6fa8c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

@josephsavage: Can you share how you learned about Hive SBI, and give an overview of how it fits into your project?

@freecompliments: It's a very understandable time to experience crypto burnout, given our general economic environment, not to mention the trials and tribulations that HSBI experienced over the past few years (at least from what I've read). As far as discovering HSBI, it was generally through scouring the website to learn about different aspects of Hive. I did also notice the @steembasicincome account votes on various posts and read further. It was only when I really delved deeper into the reading, understood Hive's general functionality better, and tried out some calculations that I understood the practical value of HSBI.

The FreeCompliments Community essentially uses HSBI as a reward system for various activities, as well as some jobs. Currently, we use the following rewards (they usually end up much higher):

![](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/steembasicincome/23tGa9AmF5w22dZdD5Exk9MuqVenbuvLqpVauo6AMdyF9PiJRcXVoJysvAjgZQnaGwRh1.png)

The rewards and jobs continue to expand, and the idea behind using HSBI is to gradually increase rewards both for our most active and quality-producing members, and to increase our own rewards so that we can help each other grow. It would also incentivize continued activity, rather than one-off posting. Indeed, so far the quality of content that's been submitted in the community has far exceeded my expectations, and I'm thrilled with the current trajectory that it is taking. I believe that using HSBI played a significant role in attracting people to participate and plan to continue using it on an expanding network of FreeCompliments-related accounts for a very long time.

<figure><img src="https://1888158910-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzXrfZJ5NtaBDF1PXdtaU%2Fuploads%2FtK3f4IRWesYFoF1xwZUo%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=c0ccee56-4826-4ad8-ac62-12fc38d6fa8c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

@josephsavage: It sounds like you've really done your homework! What do you like & dislike the most?

@freecompliments: With HSBI, I particularly like the fact that you're able to reward users with an incentive to post more in the future without penalizing them for not necessarily posting on a daily basis. When someone writes up a quality post or comment, showing a lot of effort, uniqueness, or creativity, I will gladly give them HSBI - and the higher quality the content (whether or not it suits my own worldview), the more HSBI I'll give out. This keeps people coming back because they can see actual rewards for their efforts, and mentioning the rewards as part of a comment adds to a key element on Hive that sometimes goes missing: the direct person-to-person interaction. When I reward HSBI, I make sure to include this aspect.

As far as dislikes, at this point, possibly the fact that the estimated rewards on [hivesbi.com](https://www.hivesbi.com/) don't always match up to the actual rewards. To my understanding, that's due to the Hive price not being completely up to date - my concern here being that it can mislead people into thinking their reward is different, which can affect trust. I wonder if there's a way to incorporate a live price feed for accuracy? I'm not a programmer myself, so I hope I'm not providing a goofy suggestion. 😅

@josephsavage: That's something I will definitely keep in mind for our next round of improvements!

<figure><img src="https://1888158910-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzXrfZJ5NtaBDF1PXdtaU%2Fuploads%2FtK3f4IRWesYFoF1xwZUo%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=c0ccee56-4826-4ad8-ac62-12fc38d6fa8c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

@josephsavage: What's next on your roadmap for the FreeCompliments community?

@freecompliments: Currently we're finishing up the introductions of our themed days (every day of the week has a prompt that people can write about; it is not exclusive to those days, but just serves as a reminder). After this we're going to start posting daily themed day reminders with the community account and promote them so that we have permanent publicity throughout Hive; this will also help us grow our curation account so that it can provide larger votes over time. A bit later, we're going to enhance our monthly contests and possibly introduce new ones. That's just over the next few weeks! Once this is all completed, we'll have set down the foundation of the community.

Looking further down the road, I plan to introduce even more jobs within the community (also to be paid with HSBI), initiate ongoing realistic discussions about the concepts of complimenting and free speech, mental health discussions and outreach, possible onboarding, and come up with ways in which the community can use Hive's features in ways that have not been used before. Innovation is the name of the game.

Maybe someday I'll also participate in our themed day called Talent Tuesdays. Not yet though... I'm quite timid, haha.

@josephsavage: Exciting times ahead! Do you have additional socials or contact info that you would like to share with our readers, aside from your hive name and community links?

@freecompliments: For the moment, just our Discord: <https://discord.gg/qEJkfY5AUV>

I'm not really present on other social media platforms at this point - you're about 100x more likely to reach me here than anywhere else! 😁

Wow, I just noticed that even our Discord surpassed 50 members. Sweet! We're growing faster than I imagined possible.

@josephsavage: Thanks so much for participating in this interview! Is there anything else that you'd like to add before I wrap everything up into a post?

@freecompliments: Thanks so much Joseph! I do greatly appreciate your interview and your genuine interest.

I'd only add that Hive SBI is quite an underappreciated program at this point in time. I hope more people will discover and use it. Thanks for creating it. 😊

## Welcome to @steembasicincome's twenty-first member interview!

To provide more interaction within Steem Basic Income (SBI), we are continuing our interviews with prominent members of SBI! We hope to bring a greater sense of community, get to know our members, and gain a better understanding of why Steemians are choosing to be a part of SBI.

### Writer Intro: @ecoinstant

From a young age, @ecoinstant continues to be very interested in the mechanisms of sustainability, and loves being a part of several teams working on promising projects, including the marvelous Steem Basic Income!

### Subject Intro: @tcpolymath

I am extremely happy to share this interview! I know TCPolymath as one of the Admins of Steem Basic Income, and as an SBI Discord moderator myself, I have read many witty comments from him.

Recently, the talk around the entire blockchain is about how things have changed. I reached out to TC and asked him some of his thoughts on the current issues and how they had caused him to change.

<div data-full-width="true"><figure><img src="https://i.imgur.com/o6NdcZ4.png" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

@tcpolymath: When I first came to Steem I really believed in the SP thing. I've been both an author and a publisher and I really fell in love with the idea of a large community of people all of whom have influence over the direction of content, basically building a community of people who care about each other's work. I put in what was, at that time, a pretty big chunk of money, and set about working to build that community by supporting people who I thought would be good members of it.

I spent a lot of 2018 on that, and I still think it would have been a great idea, but between Hard Fork 20 and the gaining of mind-share by the plan that eventually became the EIP and Hard Fork 21, it became very clear that wasn't a direction that anyone with power on Steem was particularly interested in going.

I'm still not sure just what it is that anyone here wants out of content; they seem to want it to magically attract enough people to pump the value of the coin without anyone ever doing any work to encourage it. The idea that you could attract quality content just by down-voting all the other stuff doesn't seem to be going very well.

@ecoinstant: I originally reached out to you for an interview about your Mesopotamians project (and SBI), and found your [Reverse Dolphin](https://steemit.com/steem/@tcpolymath/dolphin) article talking about powering down. I thought that was a very compelling author support model you had going, coupled with the power of SBI.

@tcpolymath: When it became clear that particular vision wasn't where Steem was going, I would probably have just powered down and left, except that I had in the course of things been attracted by Steem Monsters. At that time the game was in a very clear down period, and market prices on cards were extremely appealing, so as my power-downs happened rather than going back into BTC to sit around doing nothing, they went into cheap cards.

Then over time they because less-cheap cards; the game added more features, Peakmonsters added more third-party features, and eventually I started building third-party features myself. And that's been fantastically successful. For the first time in my life I'm dealing with customers beating down my door for a product instead of having to chase them, and it's pretty great.

So my Steem income keeps growing, and my Steem-based assets keep growing, primarily because I stepped away from Steem Power and blogging, and started doing other things. Meanwhile holding SP has been something of a disaster, and looks to continue to be, so I feel lucky to have gotten out when I did.

<figure><img src="https://i.imgur.com/o6NdcZ4.png" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

@ecoinstant: I remember reading your ‘reverse-dolphin’ post, and hindsight looks like you correctly spotted the trend.

Now if you have stepped away from posting and SP, where does that leave you with SBI?

@tcpolymath: I consider Steem Basic Income to have been an unofficial internship for running a Steem-based service. That's always something I was interested in, and I was a support volunteer for Minnowbooster for a while. I had been asking a bunch of detailed questions about how SBI worked, and I think between those two things Joseph decided to ask me to do support work for SBI. Minnowbooster was at that time a very frustrating environment, where the whitelist volunteers really wanted to take on more responsibility and were repeatedly rebuffed, and eventually unceremoniously let go.

SBI was the exact opposite environment: Joseph welcomed and encouraged my desire to understand the system better and participate in making it work. He was willing to let me take on more responsibility, and also to develop my long-dormant programming skills. I hadn't written code in 20 years before starting to write Steem apps, and being the low programmer on the totem pole at SBI was a great way to get back into it without pressure and with encouragement, even when that was just trying to understand Holger's code enough to track down the occasional bug. So I've developed some loyalty to SBI and to the other team members, and doing support there now is no longer the workload that it was before automation was complete, so it's easy enough to stick around and lend a hand.

<figure><img src="https://i.imgur.com/o6NdcZ4.png" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

@ecoinstant: Steem-based service, I really like that phrase and I am working on something myself right now. From your post and comments, I take it that you still consider STEEM a good blockchain to 'do stuff' with - do you think that customjson is the 'wave of the future' while the blogchain aspect just sort of rots?

@tcpolymath: We've got a blockchain that can store and retrieve large amounts of text, which is a very powerful thing, and we're not using it to its full potential because the first app on the chain renders all of that text as blog posts by default. Custom JSONs are great but even the new longer ones are more limited than they need to be. Three-second block times and the ability to store arbitrary data for a variety of purposes ought to make Steem the king of blockchains.

Other more popular chains are encumbered by features that are really just there because they seem cool, rather than because they're functional. We've been seeing that over and over with EOS smart contracts and RAM allocation lately. Steem's data-management simplicity could make it much more flexible and powerful if it were let loose. Splinterlands, Steem-Engine, and others have shown what it's possible to do with just custom JSONs, but if "posts" weren't required to be actual posts, but could be posts for people who wanted them and customizable data storage for others, that could be vastly multiplied.

@ecoinstant: Very interesting idea there, I will have to ponder that for a while....how to unchain the post....or delimit the custom json.

So Death to the Reward Pool is something [you have proposed](https://steemit.com/steem/@tcpolymath/it-s-time-for-the-voting-system-to-end), do you think that projects that are based on it, like SBI but many many others, should give up? Or look toward other possible futures that would presumably fix something? Or .... what do we do?

@tcpolymath: As long as the top witnesses and the Steemit developers continue to think curation rewards do what the white paper says they do, despite four years of contradictory evidence, I don't see a lot of point in the reward pool. It doesn't lead to rewarding content that attracts an audience, so it's basically people fighting over their sense of entitlement to what will eventually be nothing at all. I'd be sad to see SBI go, because it is a good attempt to repurpose the voting system to do something that's actually possible, but I don't have hope that the core system will ever work because the people who make decisions are unwilling to admit they have a problem. It's a legitimately hard thing to accomplish, and there's no shame to not getting it right the first time, but *when you continue pretending that you must have gotten it right **if only people would behave properly***, that's counterproductive.

@ecoinstant: great mic drop! Is there anything else you want to add, anything you want to make sure appears in the published version?

@tcpolymath: Not particularly.

@ecoinstant: Excellent. I think you tied the bow quite nicely, thank you!

### Writer Intro: @wesphilbin

Greetings, again fellow Steemians, I am [@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin). This will be my twelfth interview for the Steem Basic Income group. I have interviewed the following Steemians: [@eturnerx](https://steemit.com/interviews/@steembasicincome/interview-with-eturnerx) [@ecoinstant](https://steemit.com/interviews/@steembasicincome/interview-with-ecoinstant) [@jonnyla08](https://steemit.com/interview/@steembasicincome/interview-with-jonnyla08) [@rishi556](https://steemit.com/interviews/@steembasicincome/interview-with-rishi556) [@tattoodjay](https://steemit.com/interview/@steembasicincome/interview-with-tattoodjay) [@mariannewest](https://steemit.com/interviews/@steembasicincome/interview-with-mariannewest) [@solominer](https://steemit.com/community/@steembasicincome/interview-with-solominer) [@r2cornell](https://steemit.com/palnet/@steembasicincome/interview-with-r2cornell) [@freedompoint](https://steemit.com/community/@steembasicincome/interview-with-freedompoint) [@shadowspub](https://steemit.com/interviews/@steembasicincome/interview-with-shadowspub) [@enginewitty](https://steemit.com/community/@steembasicincome/sbi-member-interview-featuring-enginewitty)

### Subject Intro: @contrabourdon

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): Continuing to highlight our **Steem Basic Income** members... I had the pleasure of chatting with [@contrabourdon](https://steemit.com/@contrabourdon) recently, and I must say; this gentleman is the "perfect" example of not only supporting the **SBI** initiative, but also, providing numerous positive quality content on the *Blockchain*. Let's get right into it...

![](https://i.imgur.com/o6NdcZ4.png)<br>

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): What an honor to finally meet you, my friend. You are involved in so many things on the *Blockchain*... would you mind telling our readers, a little about yourself? Get everyone up to speed on who is @contrabourdon?

[@contrabourdon](https://steemit.com/@contrabourdon): Thanks for picking me for this interview Wes! Well... where do I start? I joined **Steem** only in *February* this year because I wanted to participate in an organ playing contest run by [@organduo](https://steemit.com/@organduo). I have known [@organduo](https://steemit.com/@organduo) for several years off the chain prior to this and we mostly conversed via email and **Facebook**. Our conversations were only about organ playing until I discovered the possibilities of the **Steem** *Blockchain*. So yes, I'm an organist (my passion) and working in **IT** is my job :stuck\_out\_tongue: I began only posting on **Steem** for the contest and I won it several times. I was also the recipient of a couple of [@curie](https://steemit.com/@curie) upvotes so I was on a high! I had dabbled in **Bitcoin** and other alts in the past, but I ended up dumping them because they didn't "do anything for me". So with this liquid **STEEM** in my wallet, I decided to do the same... was it worth anything? Well, back then it was about $0.40 and I ended up cashing out around the equivalent of $60 **AUD**. I was pretty stoked at making this by just entering contests and getting upvoted.

A few weeks more had passed and I started to post things other than my contest entries. I also started upvoting other posts but realised my vote was worth nothing. It was then I decided to invest and power up. If I was to be taken seriously on a platform, I had to show some sort of commitment! To cut a long story short, I got the "**STEEM** bug" and I was just hungry for more power! I used fiat to invest most of what is in my **SP** now and I have generated about 2.3k **SP** through author rewards (according to [@steemchiller](https://steemit.com/@steemchiller)). With my **IT** background, I was incredibly fascinated with the idea of a social platform that could be driven by code. I guess this is what kept me here. As for [@steembasicincome](https://steemit.com/@steembasicincome), I was initially sponsored by [@partitura](https://steemit.com/@partitura) (fellow organist friend) and it was great to get ongoing support on posts—especially for a newbie trying to be noticed.

As [@organduo](https://steemit.com/@organduo) and I had already a common interest, I bugged him a lot with questions about **Steem** and slowly but surely, I started developing little things on the blockchain. The first project was the [@giphy](https://steemit.com/@giphy) bot. I love **GIF**'s and I wanted to bring it to the *Blockchain*. I sought permission from the company [**GIPHY**](https://giphy.com/) itself to use their name (and to also create a token)! And if we fast forward all the random little projects along the way, [@organduo](https://steemit.com/@organduo) and I decided to become a witness—[@untersatz](https://steemit.com/@untersatz). We are so grateful to all our supporters. It's hard to believe that in our short journey we are already ranked 88 (85 active)! Well... I know you said you wanted to know a little about myself, but I got a little carried away haha!

![](https://i.imgur.com/o6NdcZ4.png)<br>

#### "One way to make people remember you - play ridiculously bad so that you cannot be forgotten. \[Witness: @untersatz] \[contrabourdon#9193]"

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): I knew you were involved in several things, but not at this level! You don't need to apologize either... this is all fascinating stuff! Do you have a hard time choosing between *Blockchain* and your other endeavors?

[@contrabourdon](https://steemit.com/@contrabourdon): I can't remember all the things I've done myself! I really do need to document everything (and bot commands) so that fellow **Steemians** can use all my tools if they wish. I do have a hard time choosing between this and my other endeavors. I have a young family of three girls, with [@leysa](https://steemit.com/@leysa), a full-time job and a passion for music. I'm definitely spinning many plates. I try not to put too much pressure on myself. I do whatever has the priority first and everything else can wait.

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): Oh my goodness! Three girls? My fiancee and I enjoy children very much... they "keep it real ". My son is actually on the *Blockchain* as well, but enjoys his **PS4** a little more lol...

So... you mentioned the [**GIPHY**](https://steemit.com/@giphy) Bot as well as other various projects. Is there anything new that's taking precedence you'd care to talk about? Conversely... would any of these projects be **SBI** related?

[@contrabourdon](https://steemit.com/@contrabourdon): Yes, oh my goodness! That's one way to put it. My life is busy but I do enjoy the variety of things I get to experience. It's funny how my wife [@leysa](https://steemit.com/@leysa) will tell me to stop the car so she can get out and take a photo for [@tobetada](https://steemit.com/@tobetada)'s #lovetheclouds contest. I've also actually documented all my activities (finally!) onto a website. Check it out at <https://contrabourdon.steem.design/>. It was actually good for me to do this because I've been meaning to do a "brain dump". Now that it's all out in the open, I feel I can relax for a bit... In terms of projects, I really just start these things on a whim. I've got a whole list of things I want to develop one day. Most of them probably won't get done, but I like to write it down so I can free up some space in my mind. I've thought about involving **SBI** into a little project but I can't think of anything right now. I think [@josephsavage](https://steemit.com/@josephsavage) has got it all covered!<br>

<br>

#### \*\*Writer Note\*\*: For another project that's run by @contrabourdon, check out his "\*Quick Trade Steem Engine Tokens\*" here: <https://quicktrade.steem.design/&#x20>;

Also... don't forget to check out his "Easy SBI Contest" which is now on it's 98th rotation!\
![](https://i.imgur.com/o6NdcZ4.png)\
[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): You sure have given me a lot of information my friend... our readers will surely enjoy reading your interview! Before I let you go, what are your thoughts for **STEEM**, **SBI**, and your projects, moving forward?

[@contrabourdon](https://steemit.com/@contrabourdon): It was great chatting with you Wes! Much appreciated to take the time to interview me, especially when we are in different timezones and on opposite sides of the world. Can I just say, I'm totally addicted to **Steem** and I finally have an outlet where I can share my work and potentially get some updoots! Moving forward, I hope that these downvote wars settle down because **SBI** is here to support the *community* (and when I mean support, the updoots aren't outrageous enough to dispute the rewards). In regards to my projects, I really think too much about what comes next — today has enough troubles of its own!

### Interview Conclusion

<br>

I hadn't planned on another **Witness** interview, but after reading my interview with [@enginewitty](https://steemit.com/community/@steembasicincome/sbi-member-interview-featuring-enginewitty), and seeing @contrabourdons reply... well, see for yourself:

![](https://i.imgur.com/QQRrud6.png)<br>

So, I couldn't say no! I certainly hope you have enjoyed this interview with [@contrabourdon](https://steemit.com/@contrabourdon) and if you are wondering about what *"Updoot*" means, that's just a fancy way of saying *Upvote*...

Twenty total interviews for the [@steembasicincome](https://steempeak.com/@steembasicincome/) Group... and my twelfth to date, as a writer for the **SBI** Group... With each Steemian I interview, I see a similar vibe my friends... sharing the positive effects of promoting community, a greater sense of why these Steemians are choosing to participate in the *Steem Basic Income* initiative... for not only themselves and their interaction on the block-chain, but also sharing the understanding of engagement, by sponsoring others. I thank you for sticking around, and reading yet another interview highlighting a prominant user involved in the *Steem Basic Income* initiative. Appreciate your continued support, involvement, and community interaction.

#### Who will we see on the next Steem Basic Income interview?

Until then my friends...

*Wes*

Greetings, again fellow Steemians, I am [@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin). This will be my ninth interview for the Steem Basic Income group. I have interviewed the following Steemians: [@eturnerx](https://steemit.com/interviews/@steembasicincome/interview-with-eturnerx) [@ecoinstant](https://steemit.com/interviews/@steembasicincome/interview-with-ecoinstant) [@jonnyla08](https://steemit.com/interview/@steembasicincome/interview-with-jonnyla08) [@rishi556](https://steemit.com/interviews/@steembasicincome/interview-with-rishi556) [@tattoodjay](https://steemit.com/interview/@steembasicincome/interview-with-tattoodjay) [@mariannewest](https://steemit.com/interviews/@steembasicincome/interview-with-mariannewest) [@solominer](https://steemit.com/community/@steembasicincome/interview-with-solominer) [@r2cornell](https://steemit.com/palnet/@steembasicincome/interview-with-r2cornell) [@freedompoint](https://steemit.com/community/@steembasicincome/interview-with-freedompoint) [@shadowspub](https://steemit.com/interviews/@steembasicincome/interview-with-shadowspub)

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): I have been off the radar as it were... dealing with my Multiple Sclerosis flare-ups, as well as some nasty upper respiratory issues, so do apologize for the lack of amplifying the awesome of our **Steem Basic Income** members. I am sure this gentleman needs no introduction, but to be fair, let's do that... shall we?

![](https://i.imgur.com/o6NdcZ4.png)<br>

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): From his **Steem** page: *"Witness on the chain, to maintain the mainframe... better learn the name, I play like a chess game..."* You may know him as [@enginewitty](https://steemit.com/@enginewitty), or maybe *"Witty aka 'X40L1N'"*... either way, he is a **Witness** on the *Blockchain*, and has been on said *Blockchain* since *May* of 2017. Let's dive in, and learn about *Witty*...

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): Would you mind telling our readers, a little about yourself... what brought you to the blockchain?

[@enginewitty](https://steemit.com/@enginewitty): Above all, I'm Dad to several. That's been my primary 'job' for the last 20 years and I don't see that changing before I die! HA! As for finding my self here, on **Steem**, that's an interesting little tidbit. I was involved and fairly successful with an **MLM** company called *Empower Network*. Being a writer by trade, it just fit really well. I was looking to expand my own marketing base as I was having some decent success on a few blogs like **Tumblr**, and I came across **Steemit**.

I'd already been familiar with *cryptocurrency*, being an early adopter of **Bitcoin**, so I didn't pay much attention to that aspect. I signed up and didn't even touch it for almost 3 or 4 months. Then as I was watching a few alts on Coin Market Cap, I saw **STEEM** being stable so figured I would check into it. Turns out, I was already here! So, what brought me here and why I'm still here - two different avenues now.

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): I'm curious... what was the reason you decided to become a **Witness**?

[@enginewitty](https://steemit.com/@enginewitty): Why did I become a **Witness**? I don't like red tape, and I see a lot of that. I think with the proper leadership, this *Blockchain* has the capacity to literally change the world as we know it. Right now, it's infested with greed - which is part of the reason the price of **STEEM** hasn't risen back up to a lovable level.

#### "The \*\*SBI\*\* model is one of the few that is truly sustainable by actually giving to receive - and you know how I am about that!"

@enginewitty<br>

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): I think I first met you at the *Pimp Your Post Thursday*, with [@shadowspub](https://steemit.com/interviews/@steembasicincome/interview-with-shadowspub)... this **MLM** company... **Empower Network**, can you share more with our readers about this... are you still there?

[@enginewitty](https://steemit.com/@enginewitty): **EN - Empower Network**. We did probably the biggest prebuild for an **MLM** triangle **Facebook** had ever seen at the time. This was before they were ghosting people's posts and an ad you paid for was actually seen. We called it the *Beast*. In all honesty, I was never really in it for the marketing and building aspect as I was so much that I was finally getting paid something for writing a little here and there. Like virtually all *Network Marketing* companies - it started to get stale and I had to move on.

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): I know the ghosting posts is a real thing, as well as *Shadow Banning*. Sorry to hear it didn't work out. So are you still involved with **Tumblr**? Or just strictly **"Steem"** related avenues?

<br>

[@enginewitty](https://steemit.com/@enginewitty): LOL no, haven't made a post on there since I joined **Steem**, pretty much. Every now and then I 'share' some content over there and push an article over that way but - it's probably been a year since I last did that. I pretty much threw everything else out the window and created a whole new foothold on **Steem**. I mean, people on **Facebook** are like, "What the fuck is **Bitcoin**?"... and since that was one of the larger 'recruiting' pools, I didn't see any point trying to push an agenda and creating time to again 'be ghosted'. You know **Facebook** has a strict policy against other *cryptocurrencies*, right? Pansies.

That doesn't mean I don't make it known. My profile picture over there is me wearing a **Steem** T-Shirt. I updated all my **LinkedIn** info to reflect my **Steem** relation and have a few accounts on **Twitter** that honor the *Blockchain*. I believe [@jackmiller](https://steemit.com/@jackmiller) has it set up on our budding website [thealliance.io](http://www.thealliance.io/) where it auto-tweets an article someone writes. So we have a cross platform presence, I just don't think the general populace has accepted *cryptocurrency* yet. Hell, there's people who still ride horses, cook over an open flame and write letters.

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): There are many that still don't know about *cryptocurrency*, my friend. Or, if they do... scared of it perhaps. I'm curious; where did you first learn about **SBI**?

[@enginewitty](https://steemit.com/@enginewitty): It was [@mariannewest](https://steemit.com/@mariannewest) that first introduced me to it. I really didn't pay much attention and believe I was one of the first 40 or 50 to be sponsored. She just said I'm gonna sponsor you and thank me later. Then at **The Block Party**, I got to meet her and we had a live video conference with [@josephsavage](https://steemit.com/@josephsavage) and it was awesome.<br>

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): Oh yes!! I remember @mariannewest talking about this when I interviewed her... what a wonderful person she is! Slightly jealous you got to meet not only [@mariannewest](https://steemit.com/@mariannewest), but also [@josephsavage](https://steemit.com/@josephsavage); definitely two people that bring positive energy to the *Blockchain*. With the continued growth of the [thealliance.io](http://www.thealliance.io/) , are you utilizing **SBI** in any contests or challenges? I'd love for our readers who might not know of [**The Alliance**](https://steemit.com/@thealliance) to have the chance to learn what you are doing for the *Blockchain*, as well as the many other communities...<br>

[@enginewitty](https://steemit.com/@enginewitty): The website is still in its youth and I have to give a heavy thanks to [@sayee](https://steemit.com/@sayee) and [@latino.romano](https://steemit.com/@latino.romano) for being so consistent with steady content flow. Also a big thank you to [@jackmiller](https://steemit.com/@jackmiller) for keeping tabs on it.

As for contests? Every couple weeks I'll drop a question in one of my posts for people to comment a certain thing and hand out **SBI** for it. Think the last one was your favorite bug 😋 I also throw some out from time to time for other contests. A couple weeks ago I threw some into one held by [@innerblocks](https://steemit.com/@innerblocks) over there with [@freedompoint](https://steemit.com/@freedompoint) and [@freedomtowrite](https://steemit.com/@freedomtowrite). I also pick a random Sunday each month to throw **SBI** out to people that come to our family meetings. I don't publicize it because like with my own blog, I want people to actually read it or be there and stumble on it. With the meetings, I don't want them to think I'm paying them to be there but rather, a thank you for coming this time.

I used to loudly profess all the things I delegate to or support, but actions speak, ya know? One of our main focuses right now in the fam, is retention. Those that want to be here on chain. We ask a commitment and in return, commit to them. Win, win. We don't force you to write or make comments, but we appreciate it. If a person chooses to do a thing, it gets noticed. Simple as that :sunglasses:

#### "Right now, we have a #spreadlovenotwar campaign we started with a former bidbot. With the help of @contrabourdon, we turned it into a curation account and have a small whitelist of allies that can activate it on chain. Pretty neat, actually. We tend to focus on undervalued posts and great content. We just made it possible for the account to resteem anything we vote on so whoever reads this and wants to see the kinds of things our curators are looking at, follow @alliedforces 💪 "

<br>

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): You know, I think it's wonderful that you are setting such a positive example. Interacting with so many members and communities... I have to ask; considering all this *"New Steem"* mindset, do you feel what you are providing via **SBI** units is still a positive addition? I certainly do, but I am curious of your thoughts. In the same context, do you feel more pressure representing **SBI** while holding the responsibility of being a **Witness?**

[@enginewitty](https://steemit.com/@enginewitty): **#newsteem**, pssh. It's the same blockchain man! And did you know the rewards have been 50/50 before? I have chameleon properties though, or maybe ninja, so it's easy to adapt to changes for me. I don't always agree or like them, but I find a way. As for **SBI** being a positive addition? **Hecks ya**! People can't **BOT** their posts anymore so they need that little extra boost. The **SBI** model is one of the few that is truly sustainable by actually giving to receive - and you know how I am about that! As for being a **Witness** in reference to **SBI**? I hold no accountability to to any organization other than my own family here that I've been cultivating and nurturing.

Sure, I love other ones. For example, I am a frequent visitor to the shows in **The Ramble** that [@shadowspub](https://steemit.com/@shadowspub) puts on. When I remember, I try to check out the [@freewritehouse](https://steemit.com/@freewritehouse) and [@heyhaveyamet](https://steemit.com/@heyhaveyamet) peoples. I mingle with the *Veterans* and my Pirate stakkers, gamers, musicians, you name it. The only responsibility I feel is to everyone that wants to see this *Blockchain* still onboarding new users in 20 years. That's why I became a **Witness**. The potential here is unmatched by any other chain and I really care about it, even though I'm no master coder or developer. What we build now, our kids will see. I want to give them a castle :wink:

[@wesphilbin](https://steemit.com/@wesphilbin): Oh yes... I see you everywhere, my friend! I remember when I first heard of **The Alliance**... I was always looking to see how things went, and learned about everything you stood for; family, friends, positive content on the *Blockchain*; it is appreciated... before I let you get back to **Witnessing** (is that a word?) I am curious of your thoughts on **STEEM**, **Steem**, **SBI** moving forward...

[@enginewitty](https://steemit.com/@enginewitty): Moving forward, I see a bright future for those that remain here on chain and stick out this #newsteem nonsense. It never changed, it's the same **Steem** I joined over 2 years ago except, there's a few different protocols now. If I was a *consensus* **Witness**, I would have voted against several things, but it is what it is and this marathon is far from over. How about you Wes, you gonna run with me?

Yes, my friend... I will be right beside you...

Nineteen total interviews for the [@steembasicincome](https://steempeak.com/@steembasicincome/) Group... and my eleventh to date, as a writer for the **SBI** Group...

*Wes*
